Online education is here to stay

Some people believe that when the Pandemic ends, the world will return to the traditional offline learning format. Others suggest that education systems will never be the same. In this article, we explore the advantages of online learning and explain why distance education is a new norm.

Online learning saves time

Probably, it’s the most obvious fact about the online format. Offline classes always require some preparation: you need to arrive at the appointed time and place, spend your time and energy on your way back and forth. Online everything gets easier: just log in to the Internet from anywhere in the world using a laptop or smartphone and immediately start learning.

Indeed, there is a category of knowledge that is best reached in personal contact with the teacher. However, using effective teaching techniques, the vast majority of programs can be completed remotely. Saving time is relevant for everyone: for university students, corporate employees, and especially for entrepreneurs. According to statistics, corporate e-learning takes 40% to 60% less time to complete when compared to traditional learning . Online learning provides employees with all the fun and engaging ways to learn effectively. To top it all, employees have the luxury of choosing their most convenient and preferred time of learning, and the pace they wish to study.

Online learning saves money

Regardless of whether it is a university or a corporation, offline training is always more resource-consuming. For example, corporations have special training centers. When employees are sent there, you need to cover their travel expenses and spend even more on the business process optimization (to involve extra staff during their absence at the workplace). In addition, it is also necessary to take into account the costs of providing the infrastructure of the training center, training programs, etc.

In the remote format, the task is simplified: training centers can be made virtual. In this case, an employee can connect to the company's LMS directly from the workplace or from home (which is important for remote personnel). There is no need to pay for travel expenses, and infrastructure costs, in this case, are also reduced. You can save on rent, repairs, and other factors. That is why large companies are increasingly switching to a remote format. For example, Examus is currently implementing such a project together with the corporate University of Sberbank.

Online learning expands opportunities

A few years ago, entrance exams and Olympiads for admission to universities were only conducted offline. This created a huge “comparative disadvantage” for applicants from remote regions and countries giving them unequal chances to enter top universities. Likewise, Universities were limited by the capabilities of their infrastructure and could only accept a limited number of students.

The problem was solved online. For example, in 2021 the Philippines
Pasig City Science High School conducted the online entrance examination with Examus online proctoring via the NUADU platform. As a result, Pasig City Science High School could get 550 students on board, being sure that they got academically fair results. The crucial thing is that the school has coped with the Pandemic hardships and avoided the students’ crowds in the classrooms.

The quality of online learning can be effectively controlled

In the past, the distance format was rarely chosen because it was difficult to guarantee the effectiveness of online training. Students were free to cheat, use cheat sheets and other tricks, and prepared for exams negligently. A lot has changed with the advent of online proctoring. For example, the Examus proctoring system, which combines the work of specially trained people and AI, is able to detect almost all attempts to cheat.

It is also important that such technologies have a preventive effect on students' thinking. Knowing that their actions are being monitored, only 10-15% of users decide to try to cheat the system. The only way to successfully pass the exam with proctoring is to pass it without hints and tricks. Therefore, even lazy students are forced to prepare for testing carefully. So universities and corporations can make sure that the quality of education isn’t affected by the transfer to online. The technology has been globally adopted by many universities and corporations. Over five years of work, more than 100 customers have become clients of Examus.
